Congress (APC) has declined to clear the Minister of Communication, Adebayo
Shittu, for its governorship primaries.
Adebayo Shittu, has been
screened out of the Oyo state APC governorship primaries for not possessing the
NYSC certificate.
Recall that last week, it
was widely reported the Minister’s failure to participate in the mandatory
one-year scheme when he graduated from the Obafemi Awolowo University in 1978.
After graduating from the Nigerian Law School in 1979 at 25, Adebayo instead of
registering for the mandatory one year scheme, ran for a seat in the Oyo state
House of

The National Working
Committee of the APC, took the decision to screen him out based on the report
of the party’s Governorship Aspirants Screening Committee.
The party has also screened
out the Minister of Women Affairs, Senator Aisha Alhassan, from the Taraba
state governorship race. No reason was given.
Alhassan had been the
party’s governorship candidate in Taraba State during the 2015 general
elections.
The Women Affairs Minister
had, however, generated controversy in 2017 when a video of her visit to a
former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who was then in the APC went viral.
She later told the BBC
Hausa Services that even if President Muhammadu Buhari seeks a second term, she
would still support Abubakar.
