There was sadness in Umuoke, Obowo, Obowo local government area of Imo state on Thursday, December 13, night following the killing of a retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Innocent Brown and his wife, The Punch reports.
Legit.ng gathered that sources from the community on Friday, December 14, said that the retired DCP and his wife were stabbed to death in his village house by unknown hoodlums.
According to sources, the killers who had not been apprehended, scaled the fence of the deceased’s house and murdered the couple while they were asleep.
One of the sources said “Innocent Brown is a retired Deputy Commissioner of police. After his retirement, he returned home and established a business.”
“The worst happened on Thursday night which was his killing and that of his wife.”
“Yet to be identified hoodlums scaled the fence of his house and stabbed him and his wife to death.
“We were awoken by their cry. Before help could come their way, they had died. Their killers fled and had not been apprehended up till now. ”
At the time this of this report, it could not be immediately ascertained those responsible for the murder of the couple.
The corpses of the retired DCP and his wife had been deposited at Mercy mortuary, Obowo.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Orlando Ikokwu, confirmed the incident to reporters on Friday in Owerri.
Legit.ng previously reported that the death of a policeman, Inspector Gabriel Kayode, has created controversy in Ekiti state after an aide of former Governor Ayo Fayose, Lere Olayinka, claimed the officer was knocked down by a vehicle in the convoy of Governor Kayode Fayemi.
The officer and one other person, Albert Afolayan, were knocked down by a vehicle around 10am on Tuesday, June 19, at Fajuyi in Ado Ekiti.
The Punch reports that the special assistant to Governor Ayodele Fayose on public communications and new media, Lere Olayinka, claimed that the police officer was knocked down by one of the vehicles in Fayemi's convoy.
