Confusion As 2 Police Commissioners Resume

There was confusion at the Ikeja headquarters of the police command as two commissioners, Edgal Imohimi and Kayode Egbetokun, resumed duty on Tuesday, January 15.
Premium Times reports that at the Government Reservation Area (GRA) headquarters, Imohimi, the state police commissioner joined Egbetokun, his deputy who was on Monday, January 14, promoted to take over his boss' office,.

However, Edgal, who handed over to Egbetokun due to his redeployment to Abuja, returned to his Lagos office on Tuesday, claiming that he was still in charge; this was after his deputy had resumed duty the same day before him, a development that sparked instant confusion among many in the area.

While newsmen on Tuesday were waiting at the conference hall, for the ceremony of Imohimi's handover to Egbetokun, they received a shocker when the former commissioner addressed them thus: “Gentlemen of the press, are you here for the handing over and taking over?

"Are you here because you like me or you are eager for me to leave? Well, there is a directive that the status quo should remain till further notice.”

“I am sure that Kayode Egbetokun is an old-timer in the command. Our first job as police is order and directive; we were about concluding the handing over and taking over procedure when we were instructed by our bosses from Abuja to suspend action for now. So, there is no change of guard for now.”

Reacting to the development, Egbetokun, said: “We are government agents and we are always taking directives.”

Egbetokun’s vehicle was later replaced at the parking lot with Edgal's official car. The deputy commissioner, who anticipated his resumption of office, had arrived the venue with his aides.

It was learnt that the directive to suspend the handing over ceremony was given by the force headquarters in Abuja.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Imohimi told reporters in the afternoon of Tuesday, January 15, at the command headquarters, Ikeja GRA, that he remains the Lagos state commissioner of police.

Imohimi said he received a call from police headquarters in Abuja that there was no change of guard in the command.
