The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi state has called on the Nigeria Police Force to immediately release the Senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye.
The party during an emergency meeting held at the Iyah-Gbede residence of General David Jemibewon (rtd.) described the detention of Melaye as an “unabated intimidation”.
Guardian reports that the PDP in a statement signed by the chairman of the Kogi west, Taiwo Kola-Ojo said Melaye would be returned to the Senate whether he campaigns or not.
According to Kola-Ojo, the same way Melaye's recall exercise was 'killed' by the people, his incapacitation during the period notwithstanding will be made void.
He also asked the people of Kogi west to resist every action by the ruling party and vote massively for the detained senator.
He described Melaye's detention as “one of the dubious tactics against the PDP across the country,” adding that “it is medicine after death.”
“The occupation of the residence, inhuman evacuation and the ultimate incarceration of Senator Dino Melaye by the Nigerian police in cahoots with the APC governments at the national level and Kogi State is cowardly, retrogressive, repressive and persecuted," Kola-Ojo said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigeria Police Force said investigation is ongoing into the case of criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide against Senator Dino Melaye (representing Kogi west) is on-going and he may soon be charged to court.
The senator, who was allegedly wanted for culpable homicide, ended the eight siege on his house after he surrendered to the police on Friday, January 4.
