One person has reportedly died in the crisis that broke out during the campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa state on Thursday, January 17.
A police officer was said to have shot one of the participants in a bid to maintain peace during the crisis, The Guardian reports.
A police vehicle was consequently set ablaze by a mob, which invaded the arena.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, reportedly stayed away from the presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a result of the allegation that he was not given an active role in Atiku Abubakar’s campaign.

This caused division within the party. The party denied the allegation by the All Progressives Congress that some southeast governors were working for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election.
An associate of Ekweremadu who reportedly spoke on the condition of anonymity claimed the party did not give the deputy Senate president a specific role and described it as wrong.

He said: “The Deputy Senate President was not given any specific assignment in the Atiku Presidential Campaign Council, which I think is wrong. It is not proper that the PDP did not assign any national role to him in its presidential campaign.

“Ekweremadu was not even carried along when the PDP Presidential Campaign Council was constituted; he had no input at all. He also learnt of the composition, like other Nigerians, through the media. If Ekweremadu had not remained in the party, I doubt whether there would be any PDP to return to after the Supreme Court verdict that sacked the erstwhile national executive.

“It is wrong to say that he should campaign alongside his principal who is the director-general of the campaign council (Dr Saraki). In any case, Ekweremadu was in Gombe State to campaign for Atiku. He is currently concentrating on the South-East, which is his own constituency. He is specifically focusing on how to deliver the South-East region.”

In another previous Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, said that he was passionate about the restructuring of Nigeria.

Abubakar made the remarks during his presidential campaign on Tuesday, January 15, in Osogbo. He said he would start the process of restructuring in six months of his administration, if elected.

He said: "You know I have always stood for restructuring and I promise that I will start the process in six month, if elected and I mean it."
The PDP presidential candidate also said he would give 40 per cent appointment to youths and 30 percent to women in his government.
