Ike
Ekweremadu has been declared winner of the Enugu West Senatorial district. The
current deputy senate president would be returning for the 5th time to the
National Assembly.
Ike
Ekweremadu, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the National Assembly
elections, polled 86,088 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mrs Juliet
Ibekaku-Nwagwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 15,187 votes.
The results
were announced on Sunday by Returning Officer, Prof Douglas Nwagbo of the
University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
Reacting to
the development, Ekweradu stated that he was humbled by the result which makes
it the first time a senator would be voted the 5th time in Nigeria. He
applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the election
whichbhe says was smooth and peacefully conducted.
