The International Institute for Humanitarian and Environmental Law has called on the international community, the Nigerian Bar Association NBA and all Nigerians to stand up to what it described as a pressing issue bedeviling the country.
The Institute raised the alarm while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Registrar of the organization, Prof. Cyprain Edward Ekpo, compared the action of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to the Nazi Movement by Germany’s Adolf Hitler.
Prof. Ekpo, who is also Proterm Director, institute of Law Research and Development of the United Nations alleged that the supremacy of the Nigerian Judiciary has been thwarted by President BUHARI in the suspension of the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.
He also claimed that judges were harassed by the Department of State Services DSS under the current administration, insisting that it was a calculated attempt by the Federal Government to intimidate the judiciary.
The Legal practitioner revealed that a book entitled, “Law in Tears: Lego-Nihilism and Systemic Decimation of Supremacy in Nigeria”, was being written to expose what he called an abuse of Human Rights and the Rule of Law in Nigeria.
“It is unfortunate that we have a country of docile people. This kind of thing cannot happen in any developed country. Such a country would have been impeached. If the President can wake anytime, any day and breach constitutional procedures without recourse to Law is very sad.
“Since the assumption of office by President Mohammadu Buhari Court orders and judgments are not being complied with.
“We have well over 200 judgements we have in our disposal chronicled by The International Institute for Humanitarian Law in Nigeria ranging from the High Court to the Supreme Court has not been complied with.
“There is no reasonable investor that can invest in a country that do not Obed Court orders because your investment can to be guaranteed.
Prof. Ekpo warned that a judiciary that is not free from intimidation is compromised and cannot make independent decisions but instead will only incubate the canker-worm of corruption in the country.
