A Nigerian English
lecturer, Aliyu Tijani has died after he was brutally attacked by racists in
Russia. After the racist attack in Russia, Aliyu Tijani was sent into a coma
before good Samaritans rushed to his assistance. He was rushed to their
national hospital for treatment, he later died.
His cousin has taken to
social media to start a movement seeking justice for Aliyu Tijani who was
attacked in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan, Russia.
Abike Dabiri who is the
chairman/chief executive officer of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission has been
called on to help seek justice for the late lecturer.
Racism in Russia appears
mainly in the form of negative attitudes and actions by some Russians toward
people who are not ethnically Russian.
Over the years, human
rights organisations have reported numerous racist attacks. As at last year,
there were actually 177 reported violent acts against blacks since 2008.
According to Sova, Africans are the third-largest ethnic group to be targeted
by racists in Russia.
Racism is the prejudice,
discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race
based on the belief that one’s own race is superior.
