Three members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly have escaped assassination along Akwanga- Lafia Highway.
The attack occurred at about 10 am on
Wednesday, September 1, when Hon Samuel Tsebe (APC- Akwanga South
Constituency), Hon David Maiyaki (APC- Karu/ Gitata) and Hon Peter Akwanga PDP-
Obi 1, were returning from the burial ceremony of Tsebe's brother-in-law.
It was gathered that the suspected assassins targeted the vehicle of Hon Tsebe during the attack.
Speaking after the incident, Tsebe
expressed gratitude to God for saving his life and the lives of his colleagues.
"Three of us left Akwanga this
morning in our separate vehicles, coming to our office in Lafia after the
burial of my brother-in-law, which was conducted yesterday," he narrated.
"When we are approaching Wowyen
village along Akwanga/Lafia road that is between Police Mobile Training
College, Ende Hills and the village towards the bridge. I heard gunshots at the
driver’s side of my car in which I was the one driving.
"The bullet broke down the glasses
of my car. The shots were targeted at the driver in which I was the one
driving, so this gave me a suspicion that someone was monitoring my movement
and knew that I was the one driving.
"It is more of assassination attempt.
I have informed the police on the assassination attempt. Thank God my life was
saved." he added.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson of
the State Police Command, ASP Ramhan
Nansel, said a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
"On receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adesina Soyemi, immediately directed officers of the anti-kidnapping unit of the command, led by CSP Anietie Eyoh, to go after the criminal elements and a suspect has been arrest." he stated.
