Ukraine President Warns Russian Will Target Nato Member n US Nations

Over two million Ukrainians have now been displaced and are fleeing the country, the UN has estimated.  According to report, Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Russia will target Nato member nations next unless they do more to protect Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president’s chilling warning comes as Russia continues its bombardment, while Nato rules out imposing a no-fly zone to protect Ukrainian towns and cities under siege.

He said: “When the limits of rights and freedoms are being violated and stepped on, then you have to protect us.

“Because we will come first, you will come second.”

Amid Vladimir Putin’s continued assault on Ukraine, the U.S. and Britain have announced plans to ban Russian oil and gas imports.

The US is banning all imports of Russian oil and energy to “deal another powerful blow to Putin’s war machine,” Joe Biden said.

Minutes earlier, British business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng announced a phasing out of Russian crude oil imports by the end of 2022. In future, there could be plans to also end imports of Russian natural gas, he added.

Key Points

1.       US bans Russian oil and gas to ‘target main artery’ of war funds

2.       Britain to phase out Russian oil imports by end of 2022

3.       ‘Sixty-one hospitals out of action in Ukraine’ - health minister

4.       Putin ‘undeterred by setbacks and may escalate conflict’ - US

5.       Russia detains another 100 anti-war protesters

6.       Civilian deaths reach 474 - with number feared to be much higher

7.       Refugees Welcome: Help Ukrainians through our campaign

8.       Ukraine turns into ‘hell’ as first child dies of dehydration - Zelensky

9.       Ukraine’s president cites Shakespeare in Commons speech

Volodymyr Zelensky addressed British MPs in the House of Commons via video-link today in an unprecedented appearance for a head of state of another country.

The Ukrainian president channeled Shakespearean character Hamlet to tell the MPs that Ukraine have been forced, by Russian bombs raining down on their country, the think about the existential question “to be or not to be”.

He said: “I can give you a definitive answer: it’s definitely to be.”

Ukrainian forces have “only [the] bolstered desire to defend” against the attack that has gone on for almost two weeks, he said.

Mr Zelensky is the first head of another country to address the Commons chamber.

He used the opportunity to push his demand for Nato countries to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine.

“We want to hear that our skies are protected,” he added.

MPs gave him a standing ovation at the end – a rare thing to happen as MPs are banned from clapping in the chamber.
