Former James Bond star Sir Roger Moore has paid tribute to the "marvellous" actor Richard Kiel who starred alongside him as the villain Jaws.
The 74-year-old became famous for his role as the metal-toothed hitman alongside Sir Roger's Bond in The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker.
Kiel died at Saint Agnes Medical Centre,
Fresno, California, hospital spokeswoman Kelley Sanchez said.
She did not reveal any further details on the
cause of his death but it is understood he had recently had surgery on his leg.
Sir Roger posted a message on Twitter saying:
"I am totally distraught to learn of my dear friend Richard Kiel's
passing. We were on a radio programme together just a week ago.
Distraught."
He told Sky News Kiel, who had sounded weak
during the radio show, was one of the "loveliest, sweetest men".
"I play heroes but I'm rotten, he played
bad but was a really good man. He was a big man with an even bigger
heart."
Sir Roger said he was a "delight" to
work with and "extraordinarily brave" considering his physical
disability.
"He was a very bright man, he looked a
little extraordinary and you wouldn't sort of think at first glance, that (he
had) one hell of a brain. He was a marvellous, wonderful, warm, warm-hearted
man, " the actor said.
Rest in peace
