Nigeria’s Independence Day: Congratulatory Message

Ahead of the upcoming celebrations of Nigeria’s 54th Independence US President Barack Obama directed his congratulatory message to the nation.

According to NAN in his message dedicated to October 1 anniversary Obama pledged support from America in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.

According to Obama, the issue of strengthening relationships with Nigeria is of crucial importance for the United States.  

“Nigeria continues to play a key leadership role in Africa and at the UN in promoting regional peace and stability. At the heart of our enduring friendship is our shared commitment to democratic values, the rule of law and economic development. We look forward to strengthening our relationship and working closely in the coming year, especially in promoting good governance and combating terrorism.” 

In the message sent to his colleague President Goodluck Jonathan, Obama also wished all Nigerians a peaceful and prosperous year. 

Ex Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Chief Emeka Anyaoku also congratulated the nation, commended people for the successes, however wished Nigerians to preserve unity in the face of the country’s current challenges. The official made the statement while speaking with newsmen at Nigeria’s foreign ministry headquarters.
