A pipeline explosion caused
a free flow of oil in the Arepo area of Ogun State.
The explosion occurred on
Sunday with eyewitness reports of a huge cloud of smoke covering the affected
area.
The explosion is believed
to have been caused by the action of vandals who attack Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipelines in order to siphon petroleum products.
The National Emergency
Management Agency (NEMA) spokesman, Ibrahim Farinloye said the incident
occurred around 5:20am and that fire fighting experts from the NNPC have been
deployed to the area.
Farinloye refused to put a
figure to the casualties who are may have been affected by the explosion but he
explained that supplies have been stopped and valves locked up to prevent more
fire.
