Tongue began to wag as republican
presidential Donald Trump is in the news again after getting into a heated argument
with a news anchor and having him thrown out of a press conference. Temper!
Jorge Ramos, a presenter
for Univision, the nation's leading Spanish-language network, stood up and
began asking Mr Trump about his policy on immigration.
Mr Trump's plans include
ending automatic citizenship for infants born in the US to parents who are in
the country illegally.
As Mr Ramos began speaking,
Mr Trump interrupted him, saying he had not called on the reporter.
He repeatedly told Mr Ramos
to "sit down", and then said: "Go back to Univision."
As a member of Mr Trump's
security detail approached Mr Ramos, he continued talking, saying: "You
cannot deport 11 million people."
This was a reference to Mr
Trump's proposal to deport all people in the country illegally before allowing
some to return.
As he was removed from the
event, Mr Ramos added: "You cannot build a 1,900-mile wall," another
one of Mr Trump's proposals.
Mr Trump justified the move
by saying: "He just stands up and starts screaming. Maybe he's at fault
also."
The journalist was later
allowed back in, and was greeted politely by Mr Trump.
However, they soon resumed
their argument, interrupting one another during an extended exchange.
"Your immigration
plan, it is full of empty promises," Mr Ramos began.
"You cannot deny
citizenship to children born in this country."
Mr Trump replied: "Why
do you say that? Some of the great legal scholars agree that's not true."
During the encounter, which
lasted for around five minutes, Mr Ramos claimed 40% of people in the country
illegally enter via airports, not the Mexican border.
"I don't believe that.
I don’t believe it," Mr Trump said in response.
The billionaire businessman
said he did not believe a majority of immigrants in the US illegally were
criminals or in the country to commit crimes.
"Most of them are good
people," he said.
But Mr Trump then went on
to describe recent cases where people had been killed by assailants who it
later emerged were in the US illegally.
Mr Trump ended the exchange
by reminding Mr Ramos that he is suing Univision, which dropped his Miss
Universe pageant after he described Mexican immigrants in the US illegally as
"criminals" and "rapists."
"Do you know how many
Latinos work for me? Mr Trump said.
"Do you know how many
Hispanics work for me? Thousands. They love me."
Isaac Lee, chief executive
of Univision, said in response to the confrontation: "We'd love for Mr
Trump to sit down for an in-depth interview with Jorge to talk about the
specifics of his proposals."
