Guard Who Stole Church Offering With Glue Stick Arrested

The suspect, identified simply as Kingsley, was apprehended by the church’s guards on Tuesday, March 1st 2016. About N5,000 which was allegedly stolen, was recovered from him. Preliminary investigation showed that Kingsley had earlier been arrested for same offence.

The guards at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Ejigbo, Lagos, have arrested one church member, for allegedly stealing money from the church’s offering box.
Kingsley had gone to church on Tuesday for the regular morning mass. While other worshippers left after the service, Kingsley stayed behind, pretending to be having personal prayer time.

Thereafter, he reportedly went to where the offering box was kept, brought out a glue-coated stick and dipped it inside the offering box. Sources disclose that when he pulled it out, some money got stuck to the stick.

On his way out of the chapel, one of the private security men, who saw him taking the money, searched him and recovered N5,000. Kingsley was subsequently taken to the parish priest, who directed that he should be released on grounds of compassion. However, on getting home, it was gathered that an argument over his mis-demeanor ensued between him and his wife. He then beat his wife who reported at the Ejigbo police division, leading to Kingsley’s arrest.

During investigation, the suspect blamed his conduct on his inability to take care of his pregnant wife. In the same vein, four security guards, who allegedly stole the sum of N500,000 from the tithe box of a church, were on Monday, February 29, brought before Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos state. The suspects were accused of conspiring to steal N500,000 from the tithe box belonging to Ascension Anglican Church at Alasia bus stop, Badore Road, Eti-Osa, Lagos.
