“Olubadan groomed me from young he was a tailor n musician” – Wasiu Ayinde

The newly crowned Olubadan of Ibadan Oba Saliu Adetunji was once a musician he groomed K1 the King of Fuji Ayinde Wasiu up as a teenager.  The Fuji opens up in an interview with Hitz Excerpts….

You must be very close to the new Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, as he mentioned your name in his speech for your contribution since he was made the new Olubadan, how did your parts cross?

I met Kabiyesi at a very young age. In fact, I was 17 years old when I met him and we are still very close till date. He knows me inside out. He groomed me and taught me everything that made life easy for me. He taught me a lot and he is such a man that you can never forget. He has done so much in my life and I am happy to see him being crowned as the new Olubadan. This is what we have been waiting for, for over 30 years.

People say Olubadan is the only music marketer that could say K1 De Ultimate remove this track and add that track or let’s do it this way, at what point did you become this close?

Of course, he is my father and don’t forget he has been playing that fatherly role since I was 17 year old. He knows the best as he has been in that industry even before I was there. He has also done so well for big names in the industry before I was born. Imagine when he says something, he definitely knows what he is saying. And he knows what a small boy will see when standing on the rooftop, an elder will see it when sitting down. He is a disciplinarian and a man of his words. Baba is a straight forward person.

People say he was once a musician, how true is this?

Oh yes, Baba is a man of many parts. A trained tailor, a musician at a time until he faced music squarely. His oriki is “Omoalusekere”.
