According to report, recently
declassified CIA file of 1970, has revealed that General Odimegwu Ojukwu had no
respect for General Yakubu Gowon, before and after the Nigerian civil war.
Just after the civil war
ended, Nigeria was saddled with the daunting task of rebuilding. Issues of
trust and respect were not unconnected to the problems that would impede the
progress of rebuilding the nation.
The CIA file further
reveals that Ojukwu was still waxing strong from his base while on exile, and
though the people still loved and respected him, there was not a likelihood
that they would go fighting in his command again.
Every attempt was made at
ensuring that those who by the war had been estranged, were bought back into
the fold again, but the pace was really slow.
