Economic Revival: Buhari, Saraki, Dogara, Others Speak On ‘Journey To National Rebirth

This special edition of Maktoub magazine, the brainchild of communications expert, Mariam Mohammed was launched in Abuja at the weekend by the who is who in the society led by

the Vice President who was ably represented by the Minister of Trade (State), Hajiya Aisha Abubakar; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; the governor of Niger state, Abubakar Sani Bello among others.

The magazine with the lead article, ‘Journey to National Rebirth and Economic Revival’ parades a host of high-level and can’t-put-down interviews with political and economic gladiators as well as security chiefs in Nigeria, including President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the lower chamber, Yakubu Dogara, the governor of Nigeria’s apex bank, Godwin Emefiele; Tunde Fowler of Federal Inland Revenue Service, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas among others.

The governors of Kogi and Nasarawa state also shed light on their activities and programmes in their states.

President Buhari spoke on the effort of his administration in the fight against corruption and insecurity in the nation.  He stressed that the awareness already created that corruption is evil, in itself, is an achievement.

He further added that “I will love this administration to be remembered as one that met a vandalized Nigeria and one which reset the buttons on all areas of national life, political, social, economic, local and international and so on and so forth. We would be remembered as the government that put Nigeria on the path of self-sufficiency in food production”.

Senator Saraki said the senate has witnessed the highest level of bill passed during his leadership. He also spoke on a plethora of first time achievements from the members of the parliament which he said signified the measures in which the legislatives duties are being achieved.

Dogara gave his candid viewpoints on the issues relating to the public perception of the house, his ability to manage some nagging situations, including his personal political ambition, that would otherwise have proved daunting.

The governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello enumerated the success he has achieved within two years of his stewardship, from making giant strides in agriculture to a laudable civil service reform and improving the security of the state.

The governor of Nasarawa state, Umaru Al-Makura, who will be rounding off his eight years in office spoke on his legacy projects and the effort he has made to make the state economically viable.

Security chiefs also spoke on the fight against insurgency and keeping the territorial integrity of the country among others. Chief of Army staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai shed light on the ongoing plan to secure the release of the remaining Chibok girls while the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar opined that he wants to provide an enabling environment for a better Air force and sophisticated armed forces ready for any task.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas spoke on how the navy is supporting the fight against insurgency in the country.

The minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma spoke on how the Buhari-led administration has cleaned up the budgeting process and efforts that are on to ensure sustainable growth and development in the country.

The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele opened up on the bold steps to redirect the course of the nation’s economy. The ace banker noted that some of the policy embarked by the bank may seem tough and painful presently, ultimately, they will prove to be the right decisions for the country development and growth.

His view was supported by the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr Babatunde Fowler, who opined that tax will fund 50% of the budget, if new tax reforms are implemented.

Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi of the Federal Road Safety Commission spoke on the critical roles that are being put in place to improve road safety with the overall aim of saving lives and making the roads safer for use.
