The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of seven Christian youths involved in Wednesday’s protest in Yola, the state capital.
SP Othma Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the command, confirmed the arrest, saying the youths were arrested during the protest, which was dismissed by the police.
Speaking with newsmen at the Police headquarters, Abubakar also disclossed that some villians took over the protest, which the police earlier forbade from holding due to its threat to insecurity.
The PPRO said the bandits who took over the protest destroyed properties and some cars, causing tension and unrest, until the Police intervened.
“The chairman of CAN Adamawa State chapter wrote to the command requesting for this protest; security meeting was held and he was asked to see reasons why it was not going to be approved,” he said.
“Looking at the fact that Adamawa has been experiencing this kind of crisis, we thought it was not wise to go on this protest at this material time.
“But, still, the protest was carried and unfortunately some miscreants around tried to hijack the situation to use it for a different purpose,” he said.
He said the Police had “arrested seven people in connection with the protest and they will be charged to court”.
