President Muhammadu Buhari had promised that his government will not relent until it sees that women are empowered.
The wife of the acting president, Dolapo Osinbajo, has called Nigerian women to pray for the country.
Osinbajo said women are expected to protect the society by being prayerful and guiding their children to be productive and make the country a better place.
Speaking at the 2018 August meeting celebration organised by the wife of the Imo state governor, Nkechi Okorocha, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, the wife of the acting president said.
Osinbajo said: “Women should protect the society prayerfully. Women are expected to think more of how to guide their children in such a manner that will make the society a conducive place to dwell."
“Women are not supposed to fight their husbands, but teach their children how to respect their parents and also to protect their dignity," she said.
Also speaking, Okorocha said: ”I look back and recall how devastated I was after my encounter with women and orphans without shelter in the rural communities.
“I wept profusely and could not sleep but today, I can take a breath because more than 250 of these vulnerable individuals cannot be said to be living without roofs over their heads," Okorocha said.
President Buhari said his administration will be empowering women in terms of their social welfare and security.
The president said he will surprise Nigerians with good economic policies and sterling leadership qualities.
