Mudashiru Obasa, the
speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly, has denied speculation trending
on social media that the state Assembly is planning to impeach the state
governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.
Daily Trust reports that
Obasa on Tuesday, September 11, made this known through his chief press
secretary, Musibau Razak.
Razak maintained that the
speculation that claimed that the speaker had written Governor Ambode not to go
ahead with the plans to buy the nomination form of the APC to re-contest his
seat for second term is a blatant lie.
Razak further noted that
the relationship between the governor and speaker is “smooth and solid.”
According to him, “This is
political. Lot of information are being circulated here and there but there is
no iota of truth in the report. The relationship between the Governor and
Speaker is smooth and solid.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had
reported that a day after Governor Akinwunmi Ambode officially declared his bid
for a second term, reports filtered in that there is a threat to impeach the
governor.
The impeachment threat is
not unconnected to an alleged ongoing rift between Ambode and the APC national
leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Recall that Ambode had on
Monday, September 10, obtained his expression of interest and nomination forms
at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
