Governor Udom Emmanuel has renamed the Akwa Ibom International Airport after Obong Victor Attah, the second civilian governor of the state and initiator of the airport project.
The naming of the airport followed a resolution by the State House of Assembly to immortalise Attah in view of his contributions to the state’s development.
Emmanuel made the announcement on Sunday during a banquet to mark the 80th birthday of the former governor and praised him for the development programmes initiated during his tenure.
He congratulated Attah for making it to the age of eighty and prayed God to grant him robust health and more years to enable him impact more on the society.
In his response, Attah said he would be eternally grateful to Governor Emmanuel and the people of the state for the respect accorded him and prayed God to reciprocate him when he exited the office.
