Wike Speaks On Collapsed 7-Storey Building, Declares Contractors Wanted

Governor Nyesom Wike who visited scene of the collapsed 7-storey building in Port Harcourt yesterday, has ordered the arrest of the contractors.
Governor Nyesom Wike who during his visit to the collapsed 7-storey building on Sunday, ordered his Attorney-General to ensure those that put up the plan of the building were brought to book, described the tragedy as a sad development.

The Rivers State Governor also ordered a commission of inquiry from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, in the ongoing rescue operations.

“I commiserate with families that have lost loved ones, who came to seek their daily bread. Government will do all it can to give them support.
“I have directed the Attorney-General of Rivers State to ensure that steps are taken to do what is right within the ambit of the law.

“Whoever approved this structure—contractor or government officials— will face the full weight of the law.
“Government will take steps to acquire this property. We cannot allow this illegality. The master plan of this area does not allow a seven-storey building” he said.

About thirty-six people have so far been rescued from the rubble of the collapsed 7-storey building in GRA, Port Harcourt while four others were pronounced dead.
