Niko Kovac Explains The Advantage Liverpool Had vs Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac has bemoaned the advantage Premier League clubs have over sides in the Bundesliga. 

The Bundesliga leaders, along with Borussia Dortmund and Schalke, were eliminated from the Champions League by English opposition.

The Bayern manager has discussed the advantages of Premier League clubs following his side’s defeat to Liverpool.

Sadio Mane starred for Liverpool in Munich as the Reds once again reached the Champions League last 8.

The Senegalese forward netted a brace with Virgil van Dijk also getting in on the act to dump Bayern out of the competition.

Kovac has blamed the amount of money available at the dispense of the Premier League’s top clubs for his side’s failure to advance past the Reds.

The German coach highlighted Jurgen Klopp’s expenditure of around €500m – claiming the German giants are unable to compete. 

He also stated his concerns that Bundesliga clubs are simply unable to attract the best players with the Premier League are far more attractive proposition.

Kovac admitted:

“Money doesn’t always win, but Jurgen Klopp spent €500m in the last four years. 

“Even we as the Bundesliga forerunners did not do that. It’s just an advantage.

“We must now continue with our planning and reflect about how we want to set ourselves up for the new season.

“We must not lie to ourselves. It’s not by accident that three German clubs are eliminated by three English clubs. 

“For the top stars, it’s just more appealing to go to the Premier League than to Bundesliga.”
