Kano state Governor
Abdullahi Ganduje has presented N3 million cash gift on Wednesday, to Zainab
Aliyu and Ibrahim Abubakar, who were recently released from Saudi Arabia over
drug charges.
The governor announced his
donation to Zainab Aliyu and Ibrahim Abubakar when Federal Government
delegation officially presented them to governor at the Government House, Kano,
DailyTrust reported.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje
commended President Muhammadu Buhari, for the timely intervention to save the
lives of the two victims. He also urged security agencies in Mallam Aminu Kano
International Airport, to redouble their efforts in curbing such crimes.
The Chairman of Nigeria
Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, had earlier announced that they were
at the Government House, to officially hand over two indigenes of the state to
the governor.
Foreign Affairs Ministry
spokesperson, Mr. Friday Akpan mad the announcement of their release via a
statement which revealed.
“Zainab Aliyu, a Nigerian
student who travelled for Lesser Hajj with her mother was arrested by Saudi
Security Officials on Dec. 26, 2018, in a hotel in Madinah. She was accused of
possessing a bag containing illicit drugs purportedly bearing a tag with her
name.
“Another passenger, Ibrahim
Abubakar, unrelated to Zainab, who also travelled on the same aircraft, was
also arrested on the same day.”
