Leon Balogun has come under
heavy criticisms following his defensive blunder in Super Eagles 2-0 loss to
Madagascar. Nigeria finished second in Group B behind the Island nation and are
likely to have a showdown with Ghana in the round of 16.
Federal High Court orders
arrest of CAF vice-president Balogun was ball-watching when Lalaina
Nomenjanahary stole the ball from the Brighton defender and the striker
brilliantly rounded Ikechukwu Ezenwa in goal to put the Barea in the lead. And
when the 31-year-old was asked how he would rate himself after his performance
against Madagascar, he said:
"I made one mistake that led to a goal, one
loose-ball pass to the goalkeeper and after that, I think I defended everything
that I needed to defend.
"I know people are not
going to focus on that mistake, but that's what I'm going to do and I know I
did not make that on purpose.
"Definitely it doesn't
feel good but like I said it happened and today was just a bad day for
everybody," he told Colin Udoh.
The Super Eagles defender
will be looking to make amends in a potential round of 16 fixture against West
African neighbours Ghana. Madagascar topped the group with seven points and
Nigeria came second with six points as Guinea finished third and qualified with
four points.
Super Eagles captain
John Obi Mikel has sealed a two year deal with Turkish League giants
Trabzonspor as a free agent.
The Nigerian captain, who
is currently with the country's national team has an option to renew his
contract with another one year depending on his performance at the club.
