DJ Arafat,
real name Ange Didier Huoun, died aged 33 after being admitted to hospital in
Abidjan, Ivory Coast, according to African publication Jeune Afrique.
The famous
singer and dance musician from Ivory Coast, has died after being involved in a
road traffic accident in the city of Abidjan, according to reports.
State
broadcaster RTI reported that social media posts said he had been driving his
motorcycle when he collided with a car. They said he had been left with a
fractured skull. A doctor at Polyclinique des Demux Plateaux in Abidjan, where
DJ Arafat was transported to, told Jeune Afrique: “He was admitted to the
emergency room in a vegetative state.
Another
tribute read: “Where do you start on DJ Arafat’s impact on Ivorian music and
African pop culture?
“From the
sound, to the dance steps, to the use of social media, to how deeply he
connected with the masses.”

Arafat’s death was a “great loss” for Ivorian music.
According
to the publication, a large crowd of fans gathered outside the hospital where
he died, expressing their sorrow and disbelief and chanting: “Arafat cannot
die.”
DJ Arafat
was known for his coupé-decalé dance music.
He
released 11 albums over the course of his career.
In both
2016 and 2017 he won the award for coupé-decalé Artist of the year.
He
achieved global recognition with Moto Moto, the music video for which has over
4 million view on YouTube to date.
His songs
include Yorobo, Dosabado and Ventripotent.
