Federal prosecutors in the
Eastern District of New York have filed a new charge against American singer,
songwriter, record producer, and former semi-professional basketball player,
Robert Sylvester Kelly popularly known as R.Kelly over the marriage certificate
confirming the union between him and his late wife, Aaliyah.
According to reports, the
famous singer who has had quite a lot of history with criminal charges centred
around sexual assault, forgery/fraud and the likes, has now been charged for
bribing an official in order to attain the marriage document.
It was learnt that his wife
was 15 at the time, while Kelly was 27 years old. Now, 25 years after, he is
being charged for conniving with the official to affix her age as 18 in 1994.
This is coming after a
sweeping set of federal indictments filed against Kelly in July by prosecutors
in New York and Illinois.
Many have lost hope that
the singer would be seen in the same light or attain a certain level of freedom
considering R Kelly continues to deny all allegations, including 19 federal
charges, multiple ongoing civil lawsuits and sexual assault cases.
