A rare condition made
15-year-old Xiao Feng look decades older than she actually is. Classmates
shunned her, and she had no plans to continue her education past middle school.
That changed when Xiao
wrote to Guo Mingyi, a local union leader and philanthropist. “How do I wish to
return to a normal life,” she yearned in a letter asking for his help.
Guo responded by arranging
for a plastic surgery to correct Xiao’s condition for a 70 percent discount.
City-wide charitable events took care of the remaining $73,000.
The surgery was a success,
and Xiao enrolled in high school. In the end, the Sunline Plastic Surgery
Hospital even waived her medical bills in full so that she can put the
donations toward her recovery and future education.
