A mini bus was set ablaze by some angry youths after the driver allegedly killed a commercial motorcyclist in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The accident occurred around 7 am on Wednesday, November 4, along the Idi-Ape inwards Iwo road axis.
It was
gathered that the bus crested with 'Power Oil' suffered a brake failure and
rammed into the motorcyclist killing him instantly.
According to
an eyewitness, the bus driver was initially driving on a particular lane before
swerving to the other side of the road as a result of brake failure and hit the
deceased. He immediately fled after the incident.
"The
youths who were angered by the incident, later set the bus carrying palm oil
ablaze after the driver had taken to his heels,’’ the witness said.
The Sector
Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Mrs. Uche Chukwurahin the state,
confirmed the incident said that the accident involved a bus, a car, and a
motorcycle.
She disclosed
that eight people were involved in the accidents, out of whom only the
motorcyclist died, with none sustaining an injury.
The sector
commander said that the accident could have been caused by brake failure,
adding that this prompted the angry youths in the area to set the bus ablaze.
Also
confirming the incident, the FastTrack Emergency Rescue Operations Team (FERO)
of the Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA), said the remains
of the deceased has been deposited in the morgue, adding that "hoodlums
within the area looted contents of the mini bus shortly before setting it
ablaze."
