India has confirmed more than 1.5 billion doses of coronavirus vaccine procurement, which is more than 1.2 billion doses of the European Union (EU) and 1 billion doses of the United States.
A Wall Street
Journal report stated that India ranks third in terms of the number of Covid-19
vaccine doses the country is committed to procure. The US and the EU are on the
first and second positions, respectively.
The report is
based on Duke College’s Launch and Scale Speedometer initiative, which
systematically studies the factors that support or hinder the supply of health
innovations to lower-income nations.
According to
the Launch and Scale Speedometer initiative, India ranks third when it comes to
‘COVID-19 Vaccine Advance Market Commitments by Nation’ with the US and the EU
ahead of it.
According to
the report, India’s confirmed dose purchases of COVID-19 vaccines exceed 1.5
billion -- which is greater than EU’s 1.2 billion doses and US’1 billion doses.
However, the US and the EU rank forward because of their potential dose
purchases. While the US has so far signed up for more than 1.5 billion
potential dose purchases, the EU has also signed up for more than 760 million
dose purchases.
