Gunmen were said to have come in a large number on Sunday, shooting sporadically. The Nasir El-Rufai-led Kaduna State government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Kaura and Jema’a Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
Hours after bandits attacked Kagoro Chiefdom in Kaura LGA, killing at least 23 villagers while several properties were destroyed.
After the incident, some angry
youths protested the killings, blocked roads and set a bus ablaze.
It was also gathered that a stray
bullet allegedly killed one of the protesters.
To this effect, the state government imposed a 24-hour curfew on Kaura, Jama’a LGA to avert further outbreak of violence.
Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for
Internal Security and Home Affairs in a statement said that security agencies
have full authority to enforce the curfew.
“Following advice from security
agencies, the Kaduna State government has declared a 24-hour curfew in Jema’a
and Kaura local government areas with immediate effect,” he said.
“This is to assist the security
agencies to stabilise the situation in the areas, save lives and property, and
enable the restoration of law and order.”
