Nigerian Lawal Babafemi Pleaded Guilty To Participation In Al-Qaeda Terror Attacks

According to PM news, a Nigerian, Lawal Olaniyi Babafemi has pleaded guilty in New York to charges that he provided material support to a Yemen-based al Qaeda faction’s efforts to spread propaganda intended to encourage terror attacks.

Lawal, 33, who appeared before a federal judge in Brooklyn, New York, yesterday pleaded guilty to also participating in the foreign terrorist organization's media and recruitment campaigns.

Lawal had been arraigned before an Abuja Federal High Court in 2012 before being extradited to United States by the Nigerian Government in November 2013.

He is facing charges of providing material support to al Qaeda and criminal use of firearms.

According to U.S. prosecutors, he traveled to Yemen in 2010 to help the al-Qaida group recruit English speakers for its media operations which included publication of an online magazine for aspiring terrorists.
