Disruption: Thugs At The PDP Primary Election

The Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, is today conducting its primary elections nationwide to elect governorship candidates that would fly the party’s flag in the February 2015 elections.
According to Punch report, there was confusion at the venue of the gubernatorial primary of the Lagos Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, in Ojota as the police fired gunshots to disperse some thugs who were at the brink of a major clash.

The security agents were also said to have fired canisters of tear gas to disperse the thugs, who bombarded the roads, singing solidarity songs. One of the thugs was arrested by the police.

Many of the delegates who had yet to be accredited were said to have scampered for safety following the gunshots.
Some of the delegates, who were worried that they had yet to be accredited, expressed displeasure over the late start of the primaries.

Voting was supposed to have started by 2 pm but as of press time(2.11 pm), the delegates and journalists were still outside the venue, waiting to be accredited.

However, Gani Taofik, the PDP spokesman assured the people that everything was under control while noting that the primary would hold.
Peace has since been restored at the venue as more security had been beefed up around the area.

Six aspirants are contesting to fly PDP’s ticket in next year’s governorship election in Lagos, but Musiliu Obanikoro and Jimi Agbaje are seen as the major contenders.
