The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe in a text message sent to Vanguard, said Jonathan’s government is the most liberal.
The president,
who condemned Soyinka’s statement called the literary giant to also attack
Governor Rotimi Amaechi for his statements which were capable of overheating
the polity.
“Our eminent
Professor also sadly plays the ostrich as he failed to reprimand Governor
Rotimi Amaechi who is the national champion of impunity and official
recklessness. The administration of President Goodluck Jonathan prides itself
as the most liberal, keeping faith with adherence to rule of law and
tolerance,” Okupe said.
Prof. Soyinka
was quoted as also saying governance has degenerated to a level where any
individual on account of his uniform can stop an elected representative of a
people from going about his legitimate duties.
It would be
recalled that at a press conference held in Lagos on December 2, 2014, Tuesday,
which was titled ‘King Nebuchadnezzar. The Reign of Impunity’, the Nobel
laureate condemned President Goodluck Jonathan for allowing what he called a
‘reign of impunity’ during his tenure.
Meanwhile, as
Nigerians await the 2015 general elections to elect new leaders to run the
affairs of the country at all levels of governance, Prof Soyinka, has taken an
opportunity to advise the citizenry on the type of leader to elect.
