He follows in
the footsteps of Beyonce, who released her self-titled album without previously
announcing it more than a year ago.
Drake also
featured on that recording. Others who
have dropped albums in surprise form include alternative rapper Kid Cudi,
Australian rockers Wolfmother and rap group G Unit.
Drake's release, which some
are called a mixtape, includes 17 tracks and features Lil Wayne, Travi$ Scott
and PARTYNEXTDOOR.
The only previously
released tracks were 6 God and Used To.
There had been rumours
since November that Drake would be bringing out a mixtape.
The release comes on the
sixth anniversary of his So Far Gone mixtape and the latest one is being seen
as a way of tiding fans over until his fourth studio album Views From The 6
comes out.
