The Nigeria Customs Services has denied reports that the service intercepted a container full of dollars along Apapa road.
The spokesperson for the Nigerian Customs, Joseph Attah said news trending in the social media that one of the recently seized 40 containers by Customs along Apapa road contains United States dollars is misleading.
Punch reports that Attah while speaking at a press briefing in Lagos said the false story was created by some people who do not have the real information about the content of the containers.
According to Attah, he container was fully loaded with tramadol and other pain killer drugs when it was intercepted.
“I want to state clearly that the 40 containers seized in Apapa were containing dreaded tramadol and other pain killer drugs, not dollars," Attah said.
“We have never seized any container containing American dollars. This kind of fabrication is false, misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic on the polity,” he added.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that NCS said it intercepted a container with imported soups (stew) and some other eatable items worth N27,960,000 from China.
The intercepted container was said to have been cleared from one of the ports in Lagos. Also, information provided by the Customs Intelligent Unit (CIU) of the NCS was pivotal in this interception.
This was disclosed in Lagos on Friday, October 19, by deputy comptroller and national coordinator, CGC Strike Force, Abdullahi Kirawa.
The Customs officer lamented that the system has degenerated to the level that Nigerians are now importing stew into the country.
