Struggling
with your weight? Are you still carrying the weight from last year’s festivity,
Christmas, New Year etc.? Don’t worry you’re not alone.
For
Christians it’s lent period what did you give up? Did you give up a specific food
or an addictive habit? Non-Christians are not left out Lent is the period of
six weeks 40 days (not including Sundays) leading up to Easter, is a time of
giving up things, a period of fasting and penitence; it test your
self-discipline.
Some
Christians during lent do not eat, meat and fish, fats, eggs, and milky foods;
while others give up cakes, chocolate, sweet, carbs etc.
Lent started on
the 18th of February Ash Wednesday in western Christian Churches, so
if you did not give up anything you can start now; though it would have been
better if you had started lent the 1st day.
So join me in
this thirty days diet challenge, do not be deceive by the picture above am a lot bigger now; I am using lent as an opportunity to work on
our spirit of willpower, determination, self-control, discipline, patience and
mind set. These are essential to our decision to lose weight; but just before
we start; yes we are in this together; I will like you to do the following please:- · Snap a close up selfie and a full length picture, will be nice to have a before and after picture
- · Go on the Bathroom scale, weigh and make a note of your weight
- · Buy sport wear or comfortable outfit for exercise
- · Buy lots of fruits
A) The first
three days will be for detoxing, we need to flush out the toxins in the body
first, and you can start by going on a three days fruit fasting and drink lots
of water. I know water could be boring
because of its bland taste, is detoxing time so we’re going to give the water a
kick, buy
- · Lemon
- · Ginger
- · Mint Leave
- · Cucumber
- · Apple (Optional)
- · Garlic (Optional you might not like the smell but is very good and effective for detox)
Squeeze out
the juice in the lemon, cut out some ginger, pick out about a bunch of mint
leaves, slice cucumber and apple, apple would be necessary if you’re going for
the garlic option, it water down the overpowering garlic smell and taste. Some people are bold and adventurous, they
might not need the apple for sweetness; their taste bud could accommodate any
taste from bitter, sweet, sour and savouring which is perfect, blend it
together and store away in the fridge.
This green juice can be taken all day in between fruit, it depends on
your daily schedule or you can drink it at night just before you go to bed for
three days.
B) This is
the challenging part, you need to give up carbohydrates let it be the food you
give up for lent if you have not given up anything yet and for non-Christians, it
would be to lose weight, don’t worry guys is not for ever, remember is a
thirty-days challenge.
What are
carbs?
I will make
it easier avoid every food that comes in colour WHITE this includes bread, yam,
potatoes, cassava, iyan, fufu, eba, (made out of white cassava), pizza, pasta, and
spaghetti. Note-Sweet potatoes is allowed, is rich in fibre and potassium but to
be eaten in small portion, once or twice a week. It does not belong to the colour
WHITE carbs; this means that it’s low in carbohydrate some dietician classify
it as vegetable.
Rice is
forbidden for now, most people take rice for granted just because you eat with
cutleries and not swallow like the Nigerian Iyan and African fufu is as bad, full
of calories.
C) Avoid concentrated
juice and fizzy drinks; those cartoon and bottled juice are not pure even
though it has pure juice written on the packages, according to recent
findings. The fibre in the juice has
been taken out while trying to preserve the drinks so you are left with flavoured
sugary water, some thicker than the other.
D) Walk briskly
or jog for 30 minutes at least four times a week. Note, not to stroll or walk
at a slow pace, is very important. Do some house chores, work that body, and
put it in an active mode.
E) Do not go
on the scale after the first day you weighed yourself, I will advise you check
your weight at the end of the thirty days challenge. I know you will be curious and would like to
know but from experience it can be off putting especially when it seems like
the weight is not coming off as fast as we like.

Brussels sprout, Broccoli, Carrot, Iceberg lettuce, Leek, Mushroom, Mushroom, Pepper, Pumpkin, Radish, Sweet potato, Turnip, Watercress, courgettes, peas, Beetroot, Beetroot, Aubergine, Asparagus are some of many types of vegetables.
