It was a poignant moment for onlookers according to report, team of Northern Irish
police officers had to do everything within their capacity to lift a car off a seriously injured teenager.
The girl, 16, had apparently
been knocked down when the car was reversed into a crowd in Belfast during an
Orange Order parade.
She suffered head and neck
injuries, according to Father Gary Donegan on UTV, but they are not believed to
be life threatening.
Pleading with the public,
the Holy Cross parish priest said: ‘If you’ve no reason to be here, leave the
area. We’ve already seen this almost tragic incident that could have resulted
in a fatality.’
Several police officers
were also injured in the clashes when they came under attack with bottles, beer
cans and bricks.
‘I would appeal for calm
and ask that space be given to the medics attending the scene,’ assistant chief
constable Stephen Martin said in a statement.
