The
defendant, who was accused of patricide, was alleged to have stabbed his father
in the chest and stomach with a broken bottle on September 18, 2015, while he
was asleep in their Abesan Estate residence at Ipaja, Lagos.
The Police in Lagos yesterday charged before an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting at Oyingbo a 35-year-old man, Nelson Oamen, for allegedly killing his 75-year-old father, late Sunday Ehiremen Oamen.
The defendant is facing a
count charge of murder proferred against him by the Police.
The offence is punishable
under Section 221 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
The defendant’s plea was
not taken. The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Adegoke
Akinlabi, urged Magistrate Folashade Botoku to remand the defendant in prison
custody, pending the time he would be properly arraigned before a court of
competent jurisdiction.
Adegoke informed the court
that the application was in pursuant of Section 264(1)(2) of the Administration
of Criminal Justice of Lagos State, 2011.
However, Magistrate Botoku
ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody for the first 30 days,
and his case file forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for
legal advice.
The case was adjourned to
November 5 for the outcome of DPP’s advice.
