One 14-year-old pupil, who
was evacuated from Bristnall Hall Academy, told The Daily Mirror: ‘Just been
sent home as my school & others in my local area been closed due to a bomb
threat. Police everywhere Madness. Complete madness.
‘We weren’t told anything
our teachers said it would all be explained tomorrow. Several schools closed
around us.
‘We were evacuated off the
premises and around it in less than 10 minutes.’
Thousands of schoolchildren
have been evacuated from four schools in the West Midlands today after a bomb
scare.
Police were sent to Holly
Lodge School, Bristnall Hall Academy and Oldbury Academy in Sandwell after
calls were made shortly after 9am this morning saying bombs were on the
premises.
One other secondary school
in Dudley – believed to be Leasowes School – is said to have been affected.
The incident is believed to
be ongoing with a nearby leisure centre taking in any children unable to get
home.
Volunteers are said to be
helping the children reach the Harry Mitchell Centre, in Smethwick.
A West Midlands Police
spokesman said: ‘Detectives are investigating after three Sandwell schools
received bomb scare calls this morning. A school in Dudley was also affected.
‘Some institutions took the
independent decision to evacuate students. All are safe and being cared for as
usual by staff.
‘The calls were received
between 9am and 9.30am.
‘A police investigation is
now underway to find the person responsible for the calls.’
