"Gov Akeredolu’s aides have case to answer over failed attempt to assassinate me" - APC Senator Alleges

Senator Ajayi Boroffice, reprinting Ondo north in the National Assembly, has alleged that some aides of Governor Akeredolu have a case to answer over a reported failed assassination attempt on his life.

The lawmaker said statements credited to the Ondo state commissioner for information and the chief press secretary (CPS) to the governor on the attempt on his life neither cleared nor dissociated their boss from the alleged attack.

The Nation reports that the APC senator in a statement through his media aide also faulted a faction of the party for failing to condemn the attack.

“Following the failed and foiled assassination attempt on the life of Senator Boroffice on Saturday in Owo, the media unit of the senator is concerned that while the Ade Adetimehin-led faction of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has not deemed it right to condemn the attack, the faction has issued two contradictory statements on the incident within 24 hours," the lawmaker said.

“In one breath, the faction, through its spokesman, Kalejaye, confirmed that some aggrieved members of the party in Owo invaded the venue of the campaign. In another statement, the faction, through same spokesman, said the assailants are not party members. The faction should stop undermining the image of APC with its seeming confusion.

The statement described as unfortunate the claim by the Adetimehin-led faction of the APC in Ondo state that the attack on Boroffice was stage-managed by the supporters of the senator.

Meanwhile, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has told President Muhammadu Buhari that the inability of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to go for a second term poses no threat to the party’s chances in Lagos in the 2019 presidential election.

Vanguard reports that Tinubu made the statement on Monday, October 1, in Abuja, where he had discussions with the president over the tussle for the Lagos APC governorship ticket which has turned into a heated contest between the incumbent, Akinwunmi Ambode, and the Tinubu-backed Jide Sanwo-Olu.

The Lagos APC primary is scheduled to hold today, October 2, in 377 wards across 20 local governments, in the state. Every card-carrying member of the party is eligible.
