The Kogi West All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, for the 2019 general election.
Apart from the duo, the party also endorsed its candidate for Kogi West senatorial district,
Senator Smart Adeyemi, the speaker of the House of Assembly, Matthew Kolawole of Kabba/Bunu state constituency and other candidates participating in the election.

At the rally attended by over 50,000 Kogi West people, two former commissioners in the immediate past government, Femi Abolarinwa and Tunji Osanusi, along with 3, 252 people defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
The endorsement was perfected at the Kogi West zonal rally of the party held at the Kabba Township Stadium, Kabba in Kabba/Bunu local government area of the state.

Addressing supporters at the rally, the speaker of the House of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole, said the endorsement followed the unprecedented performance of the President since assumption of office three and half years ago.

He said he was convinced that the people of the state would vote for Buhari and other candidates of the party as the party had impacted positively on the people.

According to him, the senatorial candidate of the party, Adeyemi had represented the area for eight years and was able to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the senatorial district.

Adeyemi, in his speech at the rally said the party had only one candidate for the presidential election, urging the people to vote for Buhari.

He said the people of the state should support Buhari because he had been doing everything possible to ensure that the Ajaokuta Steel Company is revived.

According to him, the PDP government sold and destroyed Ajaokuta Steel, while its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was the chairman of the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) that was responsible for privatisation of government’s institutions.

The former senator added that the Buhari administration was committed to the development of Kogi State as a railway line had been designed to pass through the state.

He also urged the people to continue to support governor Yahaya Bello, saying the governor had been fair and just to Kogi West senatorial district.

Receiving the defectors, the zonal chairman of APC in Kogi West, Ropo Asagun, urged them to join others and work for the victory of all the candidates in the next election.

Addressing journalists after the rally, the director general of Media and Publicity to the Governor and a member of the Campaign Council, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo said the people of Kogi West have spoken with a loud voice to support President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Our incumbent Senator is busy booing one of the most respected Presidents in the world but his constituents are here in their thousands to endorse the same President. It shows he is disconnected from his people.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has completed the Obajana- Kabba road and has approved another one from Kabba to Omuaran. He has also approved the Odo Ape Dam. Yet, the Senator representing the zone is antagonising someone that is developing his district.

“Kogi West people are not with Dino Melaye. We are responsible patriots and not touts. We apologise to Nigerians for the mistake of having him in 2015. We will correct that in 2019 by bringing in a respectable Kogi West son who understands our culture and values in the person of Senator Smart Adeyemi.”
