Man United Line Up Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff As Next Old Trafford Signing

Newcastle’s bad week could soon worsen, while Man United’s recruitment drive is pressing forward.
After Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle exit was confirmed, BBC Sport now believe Sean Longstaff may soon leave the Magpies to join Man United:
Manchester United are set to continue their summer investment in youth by trying to sign Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff.

The BBC also specifically note that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is “keen on Longstaff”.
Unfortunately for Newcastle fans, the signs are pointing in that direction.
For several weeks rumours have been swirling about linking Man United to the 21-year-old.

The Sunday Times have previously indicated that Longstaff’s future at Newcastle was dependent on Benitez signing on. The broadsheet revealed a few weeks ago:

Newcastle United will resist any attempt by Manchester United to sign their young midfielder Sean Longstaff if Rafa Benitez remains their manager.
Should Benitez go, the profit-aware Ashley would be tempted to cash in, and would want £25m.

Longstaff had a breakthrough season at St James’ Park, before his campaign was ended.
Longstaff made 12 appearances for the Magpies before his season was cut short by a knee injury.

He’s now on the comeback trail, looking to be fit for the start of next season.
One question for Man United fans. If Longstaff joins, where does that leave Fred?
