This is the incredible moment police rescued a crying newborn girl from a plastic bag dumped in the woods. Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia released breath-taking bodycam footage of an officer cutting the abandoned infant – whose umbilical cord was still attached – out of a plastic bag left in the Georgia woodland.
Footage shows the officer rushing to get his gloves on before tearing open the bag as the baby inside can be heard wailing. A resident with the officer tells him that he heard the new-born crying from his home nearby. As the deputy opens the bag with a pop, the baby appears to get startled and starts crying. The officer comforts her saying: ‘Oh I’m sorry. I’m so sorry…oh look how precious you are.’
After removing the new-born from the bag, rescue workers cut off what appears to be an umbilical cord, then swaddle her in a blanket. The girl has been temporarily named ‘India’ and was placed into the care of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services, according to WGXA.
On the post with the video, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office wrote: ‘We are happy to report that Baby India is thriving.’ ‘We release this footage in hopes to receive credible information on the identity of Baby India and to show how important it is to find closure in this case.’ Police also gave a reminder that Georgia has a ‘Safe Haven law’.
The terms of that law state that it ‘allows a child’s mother to leave her baby, up to 30 days old, with an employee of any medical facility including any hospital, institutional infirmary, health center or birthing center in Georgia without prosecution.’ Share this article via FacebookShare this article via twitterShare this article via messenger
