The Economic
and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has acquired requests for the
interim forfeiture of certain properties traced to the past governor of Imo
state, Rochas Okorocha, and his better half, Nkechi which its suspects to be
proceeds from fraudulent acts.
Usman Imam,
the Head of the Enugu Zonal Office of the commission, made this known while
briefing newsmen in Enugu state yesterday Wednesday, September fourth.
Mr. Imam said
the commission has gotten comparative request on the property traced to a
former aide to the former governor, Paschal Obi, and the former governor’s
daughter.
As indicated
by Imam, some of the properties to be forfeited include a 16-block cum 96 flats
and an eight-bungalow multimillion naira estate, hotel, two schools, shopping
plaza, supermarket, hospital, and four vehicles.
“We hope to
get permanent forfeiture orders on the property in order to return them to the
people of the state,” he said.
Imam said
every one of the offices, including the schools, would stay functional as the
commission would not like to shut them down for the sake of the students and
other users.
