According to Punch, Nollywood Kalu Ikeagwu had more than he bargained for when he was starred in the movie, Broken,
alongside Nollywood diva, Nse Ikpe Etim.
The actor, who played the role
of a randy NYSC member on his primary assignment in a rural community,
was so carried away by the performance of his female colleague that he
virtually swore not to have seen anything like it before.
"At a point I could not hold back tears as I watched Nse do her thing.
It was like a real life scene to me. The storyline is touching, I've
never been involved in a movie like this before," he said.
For Nse, Broken is an added boost to her career, having made her mark in Mr. and Mrs. and 'Phone Swap' previously. She is back on the screen with the lead role in the movie.
Nse plays the role of a woman who tries to bury her past and move on
with her life. At first, she tries to pretend that her past never
existed. But time plays a fast one on her and churns up bits of her
scandalous way of life. The result is that her two children suddenly
turn up when she least expects them and shatter the peace and calm that
she has been enjoying.
Also, Bimbo Manuel, who plays the role of Nse's husband, sees his life
tumbling downwards as his love-child, a secret he desperately wanted to
keep away from his wife, reveals her identity.
While the couple struggle in vain to avoid the inevitable scandals, Kalu
tries very hard to wriggle out of the clutches of his love-struck
village girlfriend. Along the line, the lives of the three meet at the
point where their sanity and happiness become severely threatened.
The movie is perhaps the newest in town. It was produced and directed by Bright Wonder.
Broken focuses on child abuse, trafficking and neglect. It
exposes the adverse effects of social ills on the Nigerian child and on
the larger society. The movie seeks to reaffirm the place of the family
as the basic socialising agency and to raise public awareness against
the menace of child abuse," the producer said, adding that the movie is
an improvement on his previous works, including 'Away' and 'Beyond'.
The movie will be premiered on Thursday, March 28 (tomorrow) at the Silverbird Cinema in Abuja.
