Angelina Collect Honorary Oscars In Recognition Of Special Achievements

Angelina Jolie, Steve Martin and Angela Lansbury have accepted honorary Oscars at an emotional private ceremony in Hollywood.
The Governors Awards "honour extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy".

Jolie received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and became tearful as she thanked her late mother, whom she said inspired her to think of others and give back.
The actress has been an "impassioned advocate for humanitarian causes, travelling widely to promote organisations and social justice efforts", the Academy said.
Jolie, who announced in May that she had undergone a double mastectomy to reduce her high risk of breast cancer, has staked out a career "at the nexus of entertainment and philanthropy", it said.

The star said this week: "Receiving the Hersholt award makes me feel like I am on the right path but also reminds me I have more to do."
She previously won the best supporting actress Oscar in 2000 for her role in Girl, Interrupted.
Lansbury brought her two brothers, three children and three grandchildren to the ceremony, where she thanked movies and acting for rescuing her after the death of her husband.

Martin was emotional as he reflected on the friends he has made during his five decades in film, and joked that he had cried while rehearsing his speech in front of his dog earlier that day.
The awards were handed out at a private dinner at the Hollywood and Highland Centre.
A-list stars including Tom Hanks, Diane Keaton, Mark Wahlberg and Harrison Ford were all in attendance.

The ceremony is not televised to preserve a sense of intimacy and allow for lengthy tributes to each winner, but clips from the event may be included in the Oscars broadcast on March 2.
It is the fifth year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has presented its honorary awards at a separate ceremony
