Rihanna has made music history as one of just three acts to top the singles chart seven times over seven consecutive years.
The Barbados-born singer, 25, saw her latest track The Monster beat New Zealander Lorde and Fatboy Slim to top spot.
The single, in which she features with rapper Eminem, overtook boy band One Direction's Story Of My Life, which had been outselling its rivals earlier in the week, according to the Official Charts Company.
Rihanna's previous release with Eminem, Love The Way You Lie, made it to number two in the charts in 2010.
It puts the singer alongside The Beatles and Elvis Presley with seven chart number ones in seven years.
The Monster, from The Marshall Mathers LP 2, is Eminem's first number one hit since 2006.
In the albums chart, Arcade Fire's fourth album Reflektor entered at number one, knocking Prism by Katy Perry off the top spot.
