Nollywood Movies To Watch On DVD From Cinema

Since few movies are trending right now it would not be out of place to visit those that have made their tour of cinemas and now testing the waters of the DVD market. Though there isn’t a set pattern, a movie is expected to hit the DVD market after staying between a months to three in the cinemas. Here are lists of those you can still enjoy…



 Weekend Getaway

‘Weekend Getaway which was screened in cinemas nations enjoyed a successful run in the cinemas. It stars Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah, Ini Edo-Ehiagwina, Monalisa Chinda, Beverly Naya, Uru Eke, Uti Nwachukwu, Bobby Obodo, Alex Ekubo, Bishop Ime Umoh etc. It was produced by Emem Isong, Ini Edo & Monalisa Chinda and directed by Desmond Elliot.
The DVD copy includes several extra features like deleted scenes. A bored bachelor meeting his online love, a married couple looking to revive the spark in their relationship and a wealthy cougar descend upon the tropical paradise that is Le Meridian Hotel in Akwa Ibom for a weekend getaway.



The Meeting
This movie produced by Rita Dominic and Mildred Okwo, was only released into the DVD market on New Year’s day. The movie which was nominated in 15 categories for five different award platforms stars Rita Dominic, Femi Jacobs, and Linda Ejiofor, along with Jide Kosoko, Kate Henshaw, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Chinedu Ikedieze, and Chika Chukwu.

Set in Abuja, the story is about the trials of a Lagos-based corporate executive Makinde Esho (Femi Jacobs) who finds himself at the mercy of political patronage, bureaucratic red tape. He’s struck by Cupid’s arrow while in hot pursuit of a ‘meeting’ to secure a government contract. The movie was released in November of 2012 and only completed its run of cinemas some months ago and coming to the DVD market after running online.

Desperate Housegirls
‘Desperate House Girls’ which stars Desmond Elliot, Ini Edo, Kenneth Okolie, Mary Lazarus, Benjamin Toitou and others was directed by Desmond Elliot and produced by Uduak Oguamanam. The movie is also in the DVD market after its online success.

The plot is simple: Three beautiful, smart, young girls have had enough of the ghetto life. In a bid to step up their game, they decide to become house girls to rich families. Their mission is simple: Get rich or die trying.
